Claire Sheehan Awarded the Prestigious Tanasse Family Scholarship

Claire Sheehan, a dedicated student from Sunnyside High School, has been awarded the esteemed Tanasse Family Scholarship, recognizing her commitment to agricultural advocacy and leadership. This scholarship will support her academic journey as she prepares to attend Washington State University in Pullman, beginning in the Fall of 2026.

Claire is the daughter of Jason and Karen Sheehan and the sister of Jared (20), Andrew (16), and Annelise (12). With aspirations to major in Agricultural Business & Leadership, Claire aims to become an Agricultural Advocate, making a significant impact in the field.

 

In addition to her academic pursuits, Claire will fulfill a year-long commitment as a state officer with the Washington State Future Farmers of America (FFA), further exemplifying her dedication to the agricultural community. She has held multiple leadership roles within FFA, including President and Secretary, and has been actively involved in various school clubs, such as the Science Club, Math Club, and Honor Society.

 

Claire's contributions extend beyond the classroom. She has participated in the F.A.R.M. for Kids project, engaging nearly 600 fifth graders in agricultural education through hands-on workshops and a petting zoo. In her role as the Yakima Valley Dairy Ambassador, she has also participated in community food drives, showcasing her commitment to service.

 

Recognized for her outstanding achievements, Claire has earned numerous awards, including the Washington State FFA Secretary position for the 2025-26 term.  She is a SHS Class Valedictorian, and a silver medal at the Genius Olympiad International Science Fair.

 

Claire Sheehan has been selected to serve on the State FAA  State Board as an Officer for the 2025-2026 school year and will return to her studies at WSU in the Fall of 2026.

In her scholarship application, Claire expressed, “The time I’ve spent on the farm has given me a strong foundation… I also know how important it is to bring fresh ideas and practical solutions to the table. Those lessons have built my character and given me a strong foundation for the future.”

 

ABOUT THE TANASSE FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP

The Tanasse Family Scholarship is awarded in honor of Arthur “Bud” Tanasse, a Washington State University graduate who made significant contributions to the agricultural equipment industry. With a focus on supporting students who demonstrate a passion for engineering, farming, and agricultural technology, the scholarship continues Bud's legacy of innovation and commitment to agricultural advancement.
