Jane Louise Weaver, 2026 ASB President and Class Valedictorian Awarded the Pistorese Family Scholarship
Sunnyside High School is proud to recognize one of its most exceptional students, who has demonstrated remarkable leadership, academic excellence, and a deep commitment to service throughout her high school career. Supported by her parents, Brittany and Dr. Derek Weaver, and five brothers, she has thrived in Sunnyside.
She also recognized Dave Martinez and Tina Peabody, SHS staff members who guided her throughout this incredible journey.
As the ASB President and Class Valedictorian, she has consistently inspired her peers through her dedication and vision. Her unwavering work ethic and genuine care for others have earned her the prestigious Ralph Pistorese Family Scholarship.

“Receiving this scholarship will help me achieve my dreams of making a positive difference in the lives of patients and families. I am committed to working hard, serving others, and using my education to bring hope and healing to my community.”
With a perfect 4.0 GPA, she is set to attend Brigham Young University, where she will pursue her passion for nursing, specifically in Labor and Delivery. Before beginning her studies, she will embark on an 18-month mission for her church, further demonstrating her commitment to service and personal growth. After completing her mission for her church, she will begin her studies at BYU in early 2028.
A talented athlete, she has lettered in both Volleyball (2025) and Girls Golf (2026), exemplifying teamwork and perseverance. She was Sophomore Class Vice President and ASB President, her Senior Year and her involvement in a variety of school activities—including Science Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, National Honor Society, Fastpitch Softball, Mr. SHS, and ASB Executive Council—reflects her well-rounded character and enthusiasm for learning and leadership.
Beyond the classroom, she has made a meaningful impact in the community—volunteering at the Yakima homeless shelter, assisting elderly church members with yard work, and spreading joy by singing Christmas carols at nursing homes.
Her outstanding efforts have been recognized with numerous awards, including Yakima Valley’s Best and Brightest 2026, Valedictorian, first place at the local science fair, second place at the regional science fair, and the Pride and Presentation Award.

As Jane Louise Weaver prepares to take her next steps beyond Sunnyside High School, she leaves behind a legacy of excellence, kindness, and inspiration. Her achievements serve as a beacon for current and future students, proving that with hard work, compassion, and integrity, anything is possible. The Sunnyside community celebrates her journey and looks forward to the many ways she will continue to make a difference in the world.

About the Ralph Pistorese Family Scholarship
The Pistorese Family Scholarship awards $2,500 each to one male and one female scholar-athlete with a minimum GPA of 2.5, who plans to pursue a degree in health sciences, engineering, business, education, or trade school. Recipients must have earned a varsity letter in at least one sport at Sunnyside High School (SHS). The scholarship honors Ralph Pistorese, who served as Superintendent of Schools in Sunnyside from 1970 to 1979.
