Lili Briones Shines as Recipient of the Arthur “Bud” Tanasse Family Scholarship

A Sunnyside native, Lili Briones lives with her parents, Felicia and Timothy Briones, and is a proud younger sister to J’Den Briones, With an impressive 3.88 GPA, Lili is set to attend Arizona Western College in Yuma, Arizona, where she will pursue a degree in Biology while continuing her passion for fastpitch softball.

Graduating from Sunnyside High School with both her Associate of Arts degree and diploma, Lili’s ultimate goal is to become a Physical Therapist—driven by her experience overcoming sports injuries and her desire to help others heal.

A true scholar-athlete, Lili’s high school years have been filled with leadership, service, and athletic achievement. She played volleyball, slow-pitch softball, basketball, and fast-pitch softball, serving as Class Vice President as a freshman. Her accolades include National Honor Society, Leadership and Pep Clubs, homecoming and prom organization, and a long list of academic and athletic awards.

Lili’s commitment to her community is equally impressive—volunteering as a Little League umpire, running summer concession stands, and spreading joy at trunk-or-treat events. She’s been recognized on the YVC Dean’s List, named Student of the Month, earned the title of WIBCA Scholar-Athlete, and was honored as Winter Sports Player of the Year.


Lili thanked Staff Members Estefana Rodriguez and Liz Lozano for their unwavering guidance and support! Lili’s faith is central to her journey, inspired by the passage, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13)

Reflecting on her journey, Lili shared in her scholarship application, “I know personally how difficult injuries and recovery can be... That experience has inspired me to help others by providing the care and support they need to heal and live healthy lives.” Her perseverance, compassion, and faith set her apart as a role model for her peers.
