Martha Garibay Awarded Inaugural Rey Pascua Family Scholarship in Memory of Sandra Lee Pascua and Tiffany Marie Pascua

The Pascua Family and the Sunnyside High School Alumni Scholarship Fund are proud to announce Martha Garibay as the distinguished recipient of one of three inaugural Rey Pascua Family Scholarship, awarded in loving honor of family members Sandra Lee Pascua and her daughter Tiffany Marie Pascua. This prestigious scholarship reflects the Pascua family’s enduring commitment to uplifting youth who embody academic excellence, resilience, and a spirit of giving back to their community.

Martha will attend Central Washington University in the Fall

Martha, daughter of Oscar Garibay and Teresita Castaneda, resides in Sunnyside, Washington, with her family, including her older sister, Nathalie, and younger brother, Martin. Throughout her high school journey, Martha has excelled academically, earning a remarkable 3.90 GPA, and has proven herself as a two-year letter winner in girls’ softball. Her generous spirit shines through her extensive volunteer work, from assisting students at Sun Valley Elementary as a classroom assistant to serving as a translator and volunteer at Save the Children’s monthly family events, where she helped connect families, distributed books, and taught about holidays and historical figures.

Martha credits her AVID advisors, Mr. Aguilar and Mr. Cullen, for inspiring her to pursue her dreams and for instilling in her the importance of supporting others to reach their fullest potential.

This fall, Martha will attend Central Washington University, where she will pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education after earning her Associate’s Degree from YVCC. Driven by her belief in the “World’s Most Important Work,” Martha aspires to become a public elementary school teacher, dedicated to fostering a safe and encouraging learning environment for every student. The Rey Pascua Family will award three scholarships this year.

Martha’s guiding philosophy is encapsulated in her favorite quote from Bad Bunny: “I never stopped believing in myself. You should also believe in yourself. You are worth more than you think. Believe me.”

The Rey Pascua Family Scholarship was established to honor the legacy of Sandra Lee Pascua and Tiffany Marie Pascua, devoted to the empowerment and education of future generations. Martha’s passion, leadership, and unwavering resolve make her the ideal recipient of this inaugural award.
