Mason Strieck Receives the Ralph Pistorese Family Scholarship, Embarking on His Journey at Pacific Lutheran University
The Sunnyside High School Alumni Scholarship Fund is proud to announce that Mason Strieck has been awarded the distinguished Ralph Pistorese Family Scholarship. This honor not only celebrates Mason’s outstanding achievements and promise but also pays tribute to the lasting legacy of the late Ralph Pistorese—beloved educator, coach, veteran, and former Sunnyside School District Superintendent, whose commitment to service, leadership, and excellence continues to inspire new generations.
Mason is the son of Marlena and Dustin Strieck of Sunnyside, Washington, and is grateful for their unwavering support, love, and help. He would also would like to recognize Rosio Rinehold, whose support and guidance over the last few years at school was appreciated.
In recognition of his scholarship, Mason shared the words that guide his journey: “Work hard in silence, let your success be the noise.” This favorite quote, widely attributed to Frank Ocean, perfectly captures Mason’s humble dedication, as he pursues his dreams with quiet determination and lets his achievements speak for themselves.
Demonstrating exceptional discipline and academic excellence, Mason maintained an impressive 3.82 GPA throughout his high school career—an achievement that speaks to his determination and readiness.

This fall, Mason will attend Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma—joining the proud ranks of the PLU Lutes. Supported by the Ralph Pistorese Family Scholarship, Mason is poised to pursue a degree in Criminal Justice, with aspirations of becoming a future FBI agent. In honoring Mason, the Pistorese family recognizes not only academic achievement but the spirit of service and leadership that defined Mr. Pistorese’s life and career.
Mason’s dreams mirror the values championed by Ralph Pistorese—a commitment to justice, public service, and making a difference in the world. Driven by a desire to protect and serve, Mason’s journey stands as a testament to the profound impact of investing in the next generation.
He has lettered in football his last three (3) years of High School and Track all years at Sunnyside High School. GO GRIZZLIES! His community service includes a coach/counselor for Grid Kids Football Camp in the summer, helping the kids learn the fundamentals of football. He participated in Link Crew, helping incoming freshmen get to know the school and make their first day of High School easier!
Mason’s school awards include - Academic Achievement Awards for sports all four years of High School.
Reflecting on this milestone, Mason shared, “Receiving the Ralph Pistorese Family Scholarship is an incredible honor. Mr. Pistorese’s legacy of service inspires me to work hard, give back, and strive for excellence in everything I do. This opportunity will help me pursue my dreams of a career in law enforcement and federal service, and I am deeply grateful to the Pistorese family and the Sunnyside Alumni Fund for their support.”
About the Ralph Pistorese Family Scholarship
The Pistorese Family Scholarship awards $2,500 each to one male and one female scholar-athlete with a minimum GPA of 2.5, who plans to pursue a degree in health sciences, engineering, business, education, or trade school. Recipients must have earned a varsity letter in at least one sport at Sunnyside High School (SHS). The scholarship honors Ralph Pistorese, who served as Superintendent of Schools in Sunnyside from 1970 to 1979.
