Sunnyside High School Senior Ike Weets Honored with the Henry A. Stamschror Scholarship
The Sunnyside High School Alumni Scholarship Fund is proud to announce that senior Ike Weets has been selected as the initial recipient of the Henry A. Stamschror Scholarship. A scholarship valued at $3,000.00.
Ike’s remarkable achievements—in academics, athletics, and service—have distinguished him as a true leader among his peers and a role model for the Sunnyside community. Ike’s Parents are Ivy and Kirk Weets of Sunnyside, WA, and he has 2 older sisters, Marlee (23) and Maeve (20). Maeve was awarded the SHS Class of 1967 Scholarship in 2024.
Ike credits staff members Curtis and Chance Graff for inspiring his creativity and teaching him valuable life skills, highlighting the supportive environment at Sunnyside High School that helps students thrive.
Guided by the words of Vince Lombardi, “The price of success is hard work, dedication, and determination,” Ike has embraced every challenge with unwavering resolve and integrity.
A dedicated scholar, Ike maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA, exemplifying academic excellence throughout his high school career. He will continue his education at Spokane Community College, where he plans to pursue an Associate of Applied Science degree and a career in HVAC or the skilled trades—fields where his passion for hands-on work and problem-solving can shine.
" I have been a strong student academically and have found the most satisfaction in my CTE construction and welding classes. These classes gave me skills I have used in summer work and home projects and inspired me to pursue real-world, hands-on training. "
A standout multi-sport athlete, Ike has demonstrated commitment, teamwork, and sportsmanship as a member of Sunnyside’s basketball and golf teams throughout high school.
Ike’s dedication to giving back is evident in his community service—whether volunteering at child literacy events, supporting the Special Olympics, or helping manage local AAU gyms, he is always ready to lend a hand and make a difference.
His impressive list of honors includes being named an honors student (top 10% of the class of 2026), earning the Coaches Award during his senior basketball season, and being recognized as a Scholar-Athlete all four years.
Reflecting on his journey and future, Ike shared in his scholarship application:
“I plan to attend Spokane Community College and complete the two-year Associate of Applied Science (AAS) program in Heating, Ventilation, Cooling,, and Refrigeration (HHVAC/R). Spokane Community College offers trade-school programs in a community college setting at a lower cost. I chose this field because I enjoy hands-on work and am interested in skilled trades such as HVAC, construction, electrical work, and sheet metal. I have been a strong student academically and have found the most satisfaction in my CTE construction and welding classes. I want to return to Sunnyside or nearby communities and build a long-term, dependable career.”

ABOUT THE HENRY A. STAMSCHROR SCHOLARSHIP
In recognition of Henry A. Stamschror, a longtime resident and business owner in Sunnyside, WA. In 1964, Henry and his wife, Betty, founded Mountain States Construction Company in Sunnyside, which is now in its 62nd year of operation and remains locally owned and managed by the Stamschror Family. The recipient must be a student in good standing, have earned a 2.5 GPA or above, and the scholarship is to be used as tuition/school expenses for a construction-related trade school and/or tuition/school expenses for a construction management degree program at a 4-year university or trade school.
